BUILDING 427 HISTORIC AND STRUCTURAL PRESERVATION/ARCHITECTURAL CONSULTATION FOR VALUE ANALYSIS, FORT LEAVENWORTH, KANSAS
STRATA Architecture Inc. provided architectural and historic preservation consulting services for the value analysis team lead by Strategic Value Solutions, Inc. (a premier provider of value analysis studies). The value analysis study included a peer design review charrette for the proposed rehabilitations to Building 427 (Riverside Apartments). Building 427 was built in 1921 and served as married officer’s quarters for the Fort and is a part of the National Landmark Historic District at Fort Leavenworth. The team systematically reviewed the proposed rehabilitation concept and construction drawings prepared to-date in order to identify and analyze the best value alternatives for the design, materials and systems for the building and to make suggestions for potential cost effective substitutions. Specific areas of study included the potential impacts of the exterior façade restoration, structural additions and MEP and fire protection improvement as they relate to the overall historic integrity of the structure and if the proposed improvements met the requirements of Section 106 regulations. A final report and analysis was developed by the team which identified the existing conditions including existing historic building fabric and reviewed the structural capacities of the building with recommendations and estimated costs for each recommendation.
