EXTERIOR FAÇADE REHABILITATION ARCHITECTURAL SURVEY AND CONSTRUCTION DOCUMENTS
STRATA Architecture Inc. served as the consulting preservation architect for three historic masonry buildings located on the Red Campus of the University. Our firm worked as a consultant to SFS Architecture for the MU School of Journalism rehabilitation of the existing buildings. The project also included a new three-story addition located between Walter Williams Hall (ca. 1920) and the Sociology Building (ca. 1880). Our work encompassed field verification and recording of current existing conditions, mortar testing and analysis, limestone and brick review and condition analysis, review, testing and recommendations for masonry cleaning and sealing, rehabilitation of the ornate metal cornice of the Sociology Building, and slate and copper roofing system review and recommendations. Design Development studies and Contract Documents were produced depicting the extent of the exterior rehabilitation for all three buildings. Probable costs estimates were generated by the consulting cost estimator and recommendations for the final Project Scope were made based upon the construction cost findings.
