HISTORIC REHABILITATION TAX CREDIT CONSULTING AND PRESERVATION CONSULTING FOR CONVERSION TO MULTI-FAMILY APARTMENT BUILDING
The Congress Building was designed in the Neoclassical Style by Robert F. Gornall and was constructed in 1925 for the Congress Garage Company. The building was originally four stories with a fifth story added in 1927. The façade is dressed in smooth Indiana limestone. The 119,000 square foot building is unique in that it was designed in conjunction with a 150 car multi-story parking garage. The seven-story garage is located along the east side of the building and is accessible at each floor. The Congress Building continues to play animportant role in the urban fabric of Broadway Boulevard and is located within the Ambassador Hotel National Register Historic District.
STRATA was hired as the historic architectural and tax credit consultant for the rehabilitation of the building. Work on the building began in 2015 and includes the restoration of the primary façade, the renovation of the first floor commercial spaces, the rehabilitation of the garage, and construction of new apartments in the upper levels. The work is scheduled to be completed in 2016.
